Conditioning of your aerobic energy system is very important for your general wellbeing and extremely important to your Dragon Boat performance.

Without a strongly developed aerobic system all other forms of conditioning will not operate efficiently and will result in a decreased performance threshold.

All forms of aerobic exercise can contribute to your base aerobic conditioning.

For Dragon Boating your aerobic conditioning comes in 2 forms:

  • Supplementary aerobic i.e. aerobic workouts done outside of the boat.
  • Specific aerobic i.e. aerobic workouts done paddling the boat.

Your total aerobic conditioning is calculated using the metric AdLife Points.

The points awarded for your cardio exercise are based on:

  • The quantity of your activity: measured by duration.
  • The quality of your activity: measured by your exercise heart rate.

In the Dragon Boat Performance system you monitor the quantity and quality of your aerobic workouts (we show you how) and you record this information in your Workout Journal.

Training using a combination of quantity and quality will maximise your aerobic capacity.

It is this capacity that will develop your endurance for racing and your recuperation powers between races.

Targeting exercise heart rate responses while training provides maximum benefit.
